Goodman Arena, named in honor of Enoch A. Goodman of Salisbury, is housed inside the Abernethy Physical Education Center, which bears the name of Julius W. Abernethy of Newton, N.C., and was dedicated on September 26, 1970. The facility is home to the Catawba basketball and indoor volleyball teams and is one of the finest on-campus athletic facilities in the state of North Carolina. The building has a seating capacity of 3,500 for basketball and has a value of about $5 million. The facility also holds the Catawba College Athletic and Physical Education offices and is used extensively for student activities, civic events, concerts, and various athletic camps during the summer months.
