Women's Swimming Defeats Emory & Henry In Opening Dual Meet

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College swimming team opened up the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon with a dual meet against the Emory & Henry Wasps at Johnson Pool. The women's team won 146-122 while the men were victorious, 154-100. Fourteen different Catawba swimmers won individual events in Saturday's action, and the Indians won all four relays. 

On the women's side, freshman Marit Reckmann won both the 200 and 100-yard freestyle. Reckmann cruised to a victory in the 200 by finishing with a sub-two minute, 1:57.90. She followed that up with a 54.42 and another first place finish in the 100-yard freestlye. 

Another freshman that was victorious in both of their individual events in the first meet of the year was Gabriella Moll. Moll won both the 100 and 200-yard breststroke after she posted times of 1:07.81 in the 100 and 2:23.56 in the 200-yard event. 

Other swimers taking first place on the day was Jolina Franke who won the 1000-yard freestlye, and Ash Fortin who took first in the 100-yard backstroke. 

 

The men's and women's swimming teams will be back in action next Saturday with a dual meet at Barton starting at 1:00 p.m.
