Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Catawba College men and No. 25 women's swim teams continued their scorching form to start the season on the road against Barton, with the men taking a 143-99 win and the women a 198-58 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
100 Yard Backstroke
- Ash Fortin and Balazs Meszaros opened the meet with individual wins for the women and men respectively, with Fortin posting a time of 1:00.82 and Meszaros clocking in at 53.22. Kenzie Peurifoy (1:04.22) and Alejandro Alvarez (53.69) came in as the runners-up in their respective heats
100 Yard Breaststroke
- Hannah Koopmans took the women's heat with a time of 1:07.18, with Alix Henras-Marouf coming third at 1:11.11
- On the men's side, they would be denied an individual win for the first time in three meets as Ryan Case (1:00.12) and Marshall Wells (1:02.33) would be forced to settle for second and third
100 Yard Butterfly
- Marit Reckmann continued her fine form, taking the women's heat with a 1:00.25 effort while Joao Oliveira paced the men's side with a time of 52.18
1650 Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne (17:43.60), Jolina Franke (18:43.75), and Lillie Martin (18:49.44) comprised the top three on the women's side, while Elias Hysing (16.24.99), Lewis Mikesell (17:13.30), and Leon Heiermann (17:23.80) mirrored that result for the men
200 Yard Freestyle
- Ella Gutenwik paced the women's side with a time of 1:58.37, followed by Emily Heim's 2:04.24 mark
- Maks Minichowski continued to roll, taking the win for the men as well at 1:41.72
50 Yard Freestyle
- Henras-Marouf tallied the win for the women with a 24.98 effort, eking out the win by .03 of a second
200 Yard IM
- Reckmann and Meszaros each nabbed their second individual wins of the meet, with Reckmann (2:12.06) just beating out Gabi Moll (2:15.41) and Meszaros notching a time of 1:54.28 to take the victory
200 Yard Freestyle
- Franke and Oliveira would become the second Catawba pair to each win two individual events on the day, with Franke (2:16.28) winning by .06 and Oliveira (1:56.00) edging out Enrique Rodriguez (2:00.43)
100 Yard Freestyle
- Koopmans became the third Catawba swimmer on the women's side to notch a pair of victories, posting a victorious time of 54.68. Brinkley Watson (55.26) and Taylor Wilson (55.40) took second and third, respectively
200 Yard Backstroke
- Diamond Mosley took second in the women's heat with a time of 2:23.19, while Rodrigo Yus Fernandez would be second on the men's side with a 1:57.65 mark. Nolan Lacjak took third right behind Fernandez with a time of 2:01.18
500 Yard Freestyle
- Gutenwik (5:09.65) and Hysing (4:50.31) both raced their way to their second straight individual victories on the afternoon, with Heim (5:34.16) and Alvarez (4:52.88) each earning second place in their respective heats as well
200 Yard Breaststroke
- Koopmans (2:25.63) and Meszaros (2:06.43) each won their third individual events, with Moll and Lauren Keasler rounding out the top three on the women's side with times of 2:27.20 and 2:34.06 respectively
and Rowan Viles taking second as well on the men's side with a time of 2:10.24
200 Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's No. 25 ranked women closed the meet out strong, with a team of Reckmann, Henras-Marouf, Wilson, and Bridgette Pearson posting a winning time of 1:39.03
