Gabi Moll Earns All-American Honors at NCAA National Meet

Indianapolis, Indiana—Freshman Gabi Moll finished in 14th place in the Women's 200 Breaststroke at the NCAA National Championship earning All-American honors.

Moll, from Randburg, South Africa, was the first women's swimmer to compete at the National meet since 2001. Saturday morning Moll earned her spot in the night finals by finishing with a time of 2:18.65 during prelims. In finals, Moll finished with a time of 2:19.91.

"We are so incredibly proud of Gabi. Not only did she fight her way to get invited to NCAA's she made the most of her time there by qualifying for finals and finishing 14th in the nation while also scoring points for Catawba!," said Catawba head coach Matthew Gearing. "This is an incredible accomplishment and something that hasn't happened in 22 years for our Women's program. What an awesome way to finish out her Freshmen season, we are excited to see what she'll do over her next three years here."

In an impressive first season Moll broke the school record in the 200 Breaststroke five times and ended a 22-year drought on the Catawba's women's side of not having an individual qualifier for the NCAA Championships. An impressive feat for her, and the future of Catawba Swimming under first year Head Coach Matthew Gearing.
