Pueblo, C.O.-- Samantha Payne and Barja Walter took the track Friday evening inside the ThunderBowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. Both participated in the preliminary rounds of the 200-meter event. Walter secured All-American Honors with his finish in the event.
Payne, a junior from High Point, North Carolina, was competing in her second event of the national meet. She finished the women's 200-meter event with a time of 23.92. Payne's time will not advance her to Saturday's 200-meter finals. During Thursday's opening day of the outdoor championships, Payne qualified for the finals heat of the women's 400-meter event set for Saturday evening at 8:15 pm.
Walter, a senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, competed on the men's side of the 200-meter event. Walter secured a time of 20.81 and was just shy of advancing to Saturday's finals of the event.
Payne will be the lone competitor for Catawba Track and Field on Saturday's final day of competition. She is set for the 400-meter finals with a start time of 8:15 p.m.
