Charlotte, N.C. —- A total of 11 school records were broken between 10th-ranked Catawba College men and 13th-ranked women's swimming teams on the second day of the 2024 Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PRELIMS
500 Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne started the day off with a tied-for-fifth finish in the 500 freestyle, setting a school record with an NCAA B-cut time of 4:47.93
- Nazar Heraschenko earned an individual victory in men's 500 free, setting a school record with a mark of 4:25.76
200 Yard IM
- Joao Oliveira added an NCAA B-cut time in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:50.05
50 Yard Freestyle
- Marit Reckmann set a school record in the 50 free with a seventh-place finish of 23.32; Marleen Plachetka reached an NCAA B-cut time with a mark of 23.73
- Maks Minichowski broke another school record in the 50 free with a new NCAA B-cut time with a sixth-place effort in 20.10 seconds
FINALS
200 Yard Freestyle Relay
- The women began the final session just how they ended it, setting another school record, as the team of Plachetka, Reckmann, Brinkley Watson and Sydney Peterson turned in a time of 1:33.92 to finish sixth
- The men followed suit, as the team of Minichowski, Ryan Case, Juan Diego Celis and Ivo Cruz set a new school record of 1:20.37
- Additionally, Minichowski's 19.99 in the opening 50 Free set a new program record and the first sub-20 second 50 free
500 Yard Freestyle
- Just like Minichowski, Byrne bested on top of her already-new school record with a 4:57.21 in the finals
- Herashchenko did the same, shaving a quarter of a second off his school record in the prelim with a 4:25.50
50 Yard Free
- Reckmann made it another school record in the 50 Free in the finals, racing to a 23.10 mark in the 50 Free
400 Yard Medley Relay
- Despite a 10th-place finish, the Catawba Indian women's 400 Medley Relay team of Ash Fortin, Sydney McKenzie, Peterson and Reckmann with a time of 3:47.92
- The men's relay squad of Alejandro Alvarez, Rowan Viles, Lassi Niemi and Case followed suit with a school-record 3:17.29 in the final event of the evening
