Women's Golf closes action at Surratt Memorial Invitational

Monroe, N.C. – The Catawba College Women's Golf team wrapped up the third and final round of the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing 11th after three rounds at the Stonebridge Golf Club with an overall score of +78, 942 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emily Wellspeak would finish play T-46th with a +18, 234 ledger. Wellspeak's final round started on an excellent note, as her front nine featured just one bogey along with a birdie and seven pars for an Even score at the mid-way point; however, she would hit a rough patch over the back-nine, ending the round with a +8, 80 

  • Chloe Crane was right behind Wellspeak, ending Tuesday T-50th with an overall score of +19, 235. Similarly to Wellspeak, Crane had a solid start to the third round, tallying a birdie and six pars for a +2, 38 over the front-nine; also similarly to Wellspeak, she would slide over the back-nine. Crane's final score from the third frame would be +10, 82 

  • Abbie Daquila played her best golf on Tuesday, steadily improving over each of the three rounds to the tune of a +23, 239 final that saw her end play T-57th. Daquila put together two solid frames in the third round, with a +3, 39 over the front-nine and a +2, 38 over the back-nine for a +5, 77 round overall. She tallied two birdies and 11 pars over the final 18 holes 

  • Maddy Vogan, who would finish T-63rd at +26, 242, also played her best golf in the in the final round, steadying herself after a rocky day one to post a solid +3, 75 on Tuesday. Similar to Daquila, Vogan tallied two birdies and 11 pars over the final 18 holes, to the tune of a +1, 37 over the front-nine and a +2, 38 over the back-nine in some of her best play this season  

  • Mary-Paige King continued the trend started by Daquila and Vogan of posting excellent third rounds, matching Vogan with a +3, 75 over the final frame to finish T-67th at +29, 245. King shot two birdies and 12 pars during the third round, with both birdies for a +1, 37 over the front-nine and seven pars for a +2, 38 on the back-nine 

 

NOTES

  • Crane would finish T-5th among players in Par 3s, at +1 with an average of 3.08. Vogan tied for seventh at +3, with an average of 3.25 

  • Daquila finished T-7th in Par 5s, with a +2 and average of 5.17 

  • Wellspeak's 34 pars tied her for seventh most  

  • Both of Daquila and Crane finished with five birdies, while Wellspeak and Vogan both tallied four 

 

WHAT'S NEXT

Catawba College Women's Golf returns to action in two weeks in Greenwood, S.C., competing in  the Lady Bearcat invitational at the Greenwood Country Club. Play is set to begin on Monday, March 25
