Minichowski earns First Team All-America honors, Byrne breaks school record at NCAA Championships

Geneva, Ohio —- Catawba College freshmen Fiona ByrneandMaks Minichowskiwere in action on Day Four of the of the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, with Byrne breaking a school record and Minichowski ending the day having earning First-Team All-America Honors in the 100 Breaststroke.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

- Byrne posted a preliminary time of 4:59.83, toppling another Catawba record as she broke previous program-best of 5:00.87. Byrne would finish 29thin a contested field.

- After entering the 100 Breast with the third-best seed time of 52.94, Minichowski would prove to be just as good on the preliminary stage, taking fifth place with a time of 53.18 and qualifying for the finals. Minichowski missed out on fourth-place by a breath, with his time being .01 behind that of Brayden Cole 

- For the second straight day, Minichowski would earn himself All-America honors; this time it would be through a time of 53.09 and a seventh-place finish in the 100 Breast finals, as he secured First-Team All-America status. This comes on the heels of Minichowski claiming a Second-Team All-American spot in the 200 Free on Thursday 

 

UP NEXT 

- Catawba returns to action at the NCAA Championships on Saturday; Byrne and Minichowski are in action once again, with Byrne competing in the Women's 1650 Free and Minichowski taking on the field in the Men's 100 Yard Free. Gabriella Mollwill also be in action, as she competes in the Women's 200 Yard Breaststroke for the second straight year at the National Championships
