Salisbury, N.C. – The Catawba College Women's Lacrosse team (2-10, 1-5 SAC) would be defeated at Shuford Stadium on Saturday in a conference matchup with the Anderson Trojans (10-2, 6-1).
- Anderson outshot Catawba 28-14
- Catawba recovered more ground balls, 15-13, and won the turnover battle by only turning it over 14 times to Anderson's 17
- The Trojans controlled 19 draws to Catawba's nine
- In goal, Anderson's rotation of Ava Drath, Kora Turner, and Amelia King combined for six saves as Drath would take the win. For Catawba, Evie Kaserud would take the loss in a two-save outing
- Abby Shuren tallied a pair of goals, while Audrey Adelsberger and Sarah Maier also found the back of the net
- Helena Cronemiller and Jenna Hirvonen each registered an assist
- Mary Sorvilloled the team with four shots, all on goal. Shuren put all three of her shot attempts on target as well
- Hirvonen recovered four ground balls to lead all players, with Kaserud and Rebecca Salber each notching three
- Hirvonen would also cause three turnovers, with Maier forcing two as well as the two were first and second among all players
- Anderson raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first 4:48 of action, buoyed by massive performances from their offensive leaders. Ava Skeffington opened the scoring after :41 seconds, followed by Rayne Dobson :37 seconds later
- Alicia Cannon added her first at 12:27, followed by a pair from Dobson at 12:00 and 10:32 for a 5-0 start by the Trojans
- Skeffington would add her second and Sophia Santagata her first before Catawba's first goal, scored by Maier at 3:46
- Skeffington's third, at 2:51, and another from Cannon with :35 until the first intermission, sent Anderson to the first break up 9-1
- Cannon's third opened the scoring in the second frame at 12:40, followed by Dobson at 10:50 and Cannon again at 7:17
- Shuren's first goal of the game came with 3:59 before the half, with Santagata answering for Anderson just :13 seconds before the break as Catawba trailed 13-2
- Dobson struck again to open the second half scoring at 13:05, her first of four in the third quarter. Santagata would tally her third as well at 6:35, with Anderson taking an 18-2 lead into the final 15:00
- Adelsberger's goal opened the scoring in the fourth quarter at the 13:30 mark
- Lili Bouwma, Megan Cann, and Emery Robson would score Anderson's final three goals at 11:22, 5:12, and 3:49, respectively
- Shuren's second goal, the last one of the game, came with 1:10 left in the match
- Adelsberger's goal was her first this season and second of her career, with the other coming last season against Lander on March 4th
- Maier's goal gives her seven in her last five outings
- This was the fifth time Hirvonen recovered at least three ground balls this season, and her career-high in caused turnovers with three
- Shuren's two goals were the fifth time this season where she'd hit at least two, as she's now one away from reaching 20 on the year
- Catawba Women's Lacrosse is back in action on Saturday, April 6, as they travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on conference leader Limestone at 3 p.m.
