Emily Wellspeak earns SAC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba's Emily Wellspeak was voted the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced Monday.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.

Wellspeak, a senior from New Bern, N.C., holds a 3.803 grade point average while majoring in marketing. She was named to Catawba's Dean's List each of her four years on campus. She was also named to the WGCA Academic All-American team as a junior in 2023.  

Wellspeak competed in all 10 tournaments for the Indians during the 2023-24 season and led the team in stroke average. Her best showing came in the South Atlantic Conference Championship where she finished in fifth-place individually and earned a spot on the First Team All-Tournament. She had three top-20 finishes on the season.
