MCCORMICK, S.C. – Action came to a close at the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational on Tuesday with Mary-Paige King's impeccable third round as the Catawba College women's golf team recorded a 14th-place finish in its second tournament of the season.
King jumped 14 spots to T-5th with a day-two 69, the lowest third round of the event and in Catawba history, wrapping up the outing with a program-record 219 (+3). In addition to crushing records, the Clemmons, N.C. native earned her first top-10 finish and garnered All-Tournament Team honors.
Maddy Vogan had an eight-over par day, recording a 54-hole score of 242 (+26) to split 61st with Taya Buxton. Rachel Carlson notched a 248 (+32) to slot 67th as Emily Rosenschein completed her first collegiate tournament with a 253 (+37) placing T-72nd. Representing Catawba as an individual, Valentina Moran logged a 252 (+36) to land in T-70th.
Lee claimed the team victory with an 875 (+11) while North Georgia (882, +18) and Lander (891, +27) picked up podium finishes. Banthita Phoncharatkun of Lee and Kajsa Lundqvist of Lander shared the individual title with their four-under par performances.
The Catawba Indians return to competition at the St. Simons Intercollegiate on Oct. 14 and 15 in St. Simons Island, Ga.
