Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's swimming team picked up a win over Division I Gardner-Webb at Johnson Pool on Saturday for the team's second straight win over the Swimmin' Bulldogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
200-Yard Medley Relay
- The 200-yard medley relay team of George Fykatas, Maks Minichowski, Lassi Niemi and Matt Howard started off the season with a win in the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:29.93
1000-Yard Freestyle
- All-American Nazar Herashcenko picked up right where he left off last season with a time nearly 10 seconds clear of the rest of the field, a B-cut mark of 9:25.19
200-Yard Freestyle
- Minichowski also earned a B-cut time of 1:38.69 in a winning effort in the 200 Free
100-Yard Breaststroke
- Catawba newcomer Greg Kisshauer touched the wall first in the 100 breast with a time of 55.99
50-Yard Freestyle
- Matt Howard earned a win in his Catawba debut in the 50 Free with a mark of 20.66
100-Yard Freestyle
- Minichowski followed up with a win in the 100 Free with a NCAA B-cut effort, reaching in 44.76 seconds
200-Yard Breaststroke
- Kisshauer made it a clean sweep of the breaststroke events with a 2:05.49 effort in the 200 breast
500-Yard Freestyle
- Herashchenko picked up another win in the 500 Free, besting the top GW competitor by a couple seconds with a B-cut -qualifying 4:30.27
100-Yard Butterfly
- Lassi Niemi earned the victory in the 100 Fly with a time of 49.76
200-Yard IM
- Freshman Jules Remy touched the wall first in his first collegiate 200 IM, clearing the field by nearly three seconds with a mark of 1:51.90
400-Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's 400 Free Relay team of Ryan Case, Minichowski, Sammer Abdallah and Howard closed the meet with another victory in the 400 Free Relay with a 3:02.05 effort
