Women's Golf shoots season-best 308 in second round, wraps up World Golf Invitational

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Catawba College women's golf team finished 15th in the highly-competitive World Golf Invitational filled with multiple nationally-ranked programs, closing play with the third round on Tuesday.

Rachel Carlson led the way with a season-best 228 (+12), headlined by an opening-round par, to slot well within the top quarter of the field in T-16th. Taya Buxton recorded impressive first and second round scores of 75 and 76, respectively, in a 46th-place finish with 230 strokes (+18).

Mary-Paige King made similar improvements in the last two rounds while shooting nine-over-par, logging a total score of 237 (+21) in T-56th. Sara Kristinsdottir placed T-79th in her first event as a Catawba Indian with a 248 (+32), accented by her second-round 78. Valentina Moran rounded out the team in 85th place using a final score of 265 (+49).

Tampa held a 17-stroke advantage over the rest of the field as the Spartans tallied an 886 (+22) team score. Fellow Floridian schools Rollins (903, +39) and Flagler (905, +41) took the last two positions on the podium. Flagler's Stella Jelinek posted a 69 in the final round, surging to the top spot to capture medalist honors at 215 (-1).

Catawba travels to Mount Pleasant, S.C. next week for the Low Tide Intercollegiate on Feb. 24 and 25.
