Women's Golf closes Day 1 of Space Coast Collegiate Championship

VIERA, Fla. – The Catawba College women's golf team holds the 11th position in the Space Coast Collegiate Championship following the first two rounds of action on Monday.

Rachel Carlson made a big move with her first under-par round as a Catawba Indian, collecting a 71 in the second round to slide into a team-best T-17th placement at 151 (+7). Mary-Paige King had an inverse day as the sophomore slugged a first-round 70, her second-best of the season, and went on to finish the opening 36 holes in T-22nd at 152 (+8).

Sara Kristinsdottir kept both of her rounds in the 70s, going 78-79 to total 157 strokes (+13) and stand T-40th through the first day. Emily Rosenschein is also contributing to the team score at 167 (+23), good for T-57th, while Taya Buxton is one shot behind the rookie in 59th place.

Enjoying the best round of her freshman campaign, Hannah Waddell fired an 80 in the second 18 to rise into 60th place at 170 (+26) as an individual. Valentina Moran rounds out the Catawba contingent with a score of 179 (+35) that slots T-64th in the field.

In team standings, Catawba stacks up 11th after totaling a 625 (+49) team score in the first two rounds at Duran Golf Club.

Nova Southeastern holds a seven-shot lead at two-over (578), led by the field's lone under-par performer (143, -1) in Haruka Muta. Tampa (585, +9) and Lynn (589, +13) are lined up for the podium as two-year squad Seminole State (607, +31) knocks on the door in fourth place.

Action concludes tomorrow with the third round teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
