Women's Golf third on Day 1 of The Patsy Rendleman; Carlson & King inside Top 10

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational on Monday, earning a third-place standing.

On the heels of a runner-up finish at the Oldfield Intercollegiate, Rachel Carlson holds second place through 36 holes with a 144 (+2) using back-to-back 72s. Mary-Paige King climbed six spots with a second-round 73, logging a score of 152 (+10) to tie for the ninth spot.

Sara Kristinsdottir carded 77-78, headlined by a one-over front nine in Round 2, to total 155 strokes (+13) and slot T-14th. Taya Buxton led off with a 77 including two birdies before finishing the day at 161 (+19) in 22nd. Hannah Waddell rounded out the Catawba lineup in T-30th as she recorded a 171 (+29), factoring into the team total with an 80 in the second 18.

Competing as an individual, Emily Rosenschein achieved perfect consistency with two 82 rounds, shooting 41 in each front and back nine, to land 25th at 164 (+22). Valentina Moran bounced back from a tough first round to fire an 81 in the second, standing T-32nd with a score of 176 (+34) heading into the final day.

Catawba finished the opening two stanzas of its home tournament with a 608 (+40) team score, good for third place in the five-team field.

Boasting four golfers in the Top 5, Tampa leads the team standings by 24 shots at 582 (+14). Carson-Newman turned in a much-improved eight-over-par second round to slide into second place with a 606 (+38), holding a two-stroke edge over Catawba. Tampa's Justine Bayle tops the individual leaderboard as the lone under-par golfer on Day 1 at 141 (-1).

The event concludes tomorrow with the final round teeing off at 9 a.m.
