Hickory, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's track and field team was back in action this weekend, split between the Duke Invitational and the Southside Power & Fitness Invite hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duke Invitational
5000 Meter Run
- Oussama Ajala was the top Catawba finisher in the men's 5K at the Duke Invite, turning in an effort of 14:45.13
Southside Power & Fitness Invite
5000 Meter Run
- Catawba took each of the top four positions in the men's 5K, with Michael Martinez finishing ahead of the pack with a time of 15:22.47
- Carson Wells, Brannon Burns and EJ Threatt all finished in second through fourth, respectively
Long Jump
- Chris Brown was the runner-up in the men's long jump, reaching 6.80 meters on his fourth attempt
- Mason Kuhneman placed seventh with a mark of 6.37 meters
Javelin Throw
- Dominick Gentile was the top Catawba finisher in the men's javelin throw, recording a heave of 47.80 meters
Pole Vault
- Seth Drake earned a top-four finish in the men's pole vault, reaching 4.05 meters
Triple Jump
- Brown followed his runner-up in the long jump with a third-place finish in the triple jump with a 13.83 mark
100-Meter Dash
- Winfred Porter and Darius Turner finished 1-2 in the men's 100-meter dash; Porter won the event with a blazing time of 10.45
- Jeremiah Hailstock added a fifth-place finish of 10.90
400-Meter Dash
- Tyler Johnson was the runner-up in the men's 400-meter dash, racing to a 48.64 time
800-Meter Run
- Tanner Smith was the top Catawba finisher in the 800, finishing under a second from the event winner with a mark of 1:54.27
400-Meter Hurdles
- John Shearin IV placed inside the top ten in the men's 400m hurdles with a 56.50 showing
200-Meter Dash
- Porter made it a 100-200 sweep with another victory in the 200m dash, besting the field with a time of 21.34
- Brendan Henby and Hailstock added top-12 finishes for the Catawba Indians
