Hickory, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's track and field team was back in action this weekend, split between the Duke Invitational and the Southside Power & Fitness Invite hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Duke Invitational
5000-Meter Run
- Madi Clay was the top Division II finisher in the women's 5K, placing 13th overall with a time of 16:57.08
- Natalie Almond was right behind her, finishing 15th overall as the second-fastest Division II runner with a 16:59.88
- Hannah Caudill added a top-20 finish in an impressive showing for Catawba, while Emer Mcglynn added a top-40 finish
Southside Power & Fitness Invite
Long Jump
- Efe Egberi was the women's long jump champion, reaching a meet-best mark of 5.68 meters
3000 Meter Steeplechase
- Justine Sanchez finished third in the 3K steeplechase event, recording a time of 12:28.69
1500 Meter Run
- Joanna Owczarz was the top Catawba finisher in the 1500, finishing fourth overall with a 4:48.01 effort
100-Meter Dash
- Mallory Witherspoon finished as the runner-up in the women's 100m dash, racing to a time of 12.22
400-Meter Dash
- Skylar Southern and Letsi Burgos finished side-by-side in the 400m dash, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively
800-Meter Run
- Owczarz followed up with another top-five finish, this time in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:19.31
400-Meter Hurdles
- Tatiana Chegwerewe earned a top-five finish in the women's 400m hurdles, crossing the line at 1:09.05
200-Meter Dash
- Southern was the top Catawba finisher in the 200-meter dash with a seventh-place finish
- Witherspoon and Egberi finished in a virtual tie for ninth with identical 25.35 finishes
