HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- UVA Wise jumped in front 28 seconds after the opening whistle when Issie Brown sent an unassisted shot to the back of the net
- Moments later, Mullin drew the game's first free position and drilled her shot to make it 1-1
- The Cavs won the draw and saw Abby Stoffelen drain a free position score, but Catawba struck back on the next possession when Skepple scored off another Catawba Indian free position chance
- Despite going back and forth for the first five minutes, UVA Wise scored three times to close the period up 5-2
Second Quarter
- Following an early Catawba green card, Kunza pocketed a man-down save and helped successfully kill the penalty
- The hosts were relentless, however, as Grace Golatt and Logen Davis tossed in scores to extend the gap to 7-2
- Kunza made another big stop before her offense came through when Baillie found Deal to stop the skid
- Two scores from Noley Hiller and another by Davis brought the score to 10-3
- Deal and Skepple secured their braces with back-to-back goals to conclude the half behind by five
Third Quarter
- Hiller completed a hat trick within a minute of the second half starting, then added a fourth goal a few minutes later
- UVA Wise continued to limit Catawba's offense, only allowing the visitors a pair of off-target tries
- After Hiller's early goals, the Highland Cavaliers tacked on five more to finish the stanza on a seven-score run
Fourth Quarter
- Golatt stretched the Catawba Indians' deficit to 18-5, shortly before McCusker drew a foul to produce a free position strike to even it out
- Saddled with another Cav goal, Catawba returned the favor once more as Filosa took the next draw control into the offensive zone and connected with Baillie for the dart
- Wise burned off a green card and attempted to extend the lead further, but Kunza snatched up two shots with the second coming on a free position at point-blank range
- The Cavs delivered a final blow to finalize the ledger at 20-7
