Carlson, King lead Women's Golf to fifth-place finish at rain-shortened SAC Championships

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Catawba College women's golf team placed fifth at the South Atlantic Conference Championships as proceedings wrapped up Tuesday. Previously scheduled for 54 holes, Monday's round was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Rachel Carlson started her final round with a one-under front nine before finishing at 74, totaling 146 (+2) to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team in sixth place. Mary-Paige King turned in a final card of 73-75 (148, +4) that included two birdies in Tuesday's final round to take a share of T-11th place.

Also cracking the top-20 list was Sara Kristinsdottir who used a 79 to conclude the rain-shortened affair with 151 shots (+7), good for T-18th. Taya Buxton took a stroke off her initial round score with a round-two 81 that contributed to the team score, placing T-43rd at 163 (+19). Hannah Waddell shot an 83 on Tuesday to round out her first career conference meet with 165 strokes (+21) to slot T-47th.

Following its best round of the year, Catawba registered a 309 in the final 18 holes to post a composite score of 608 (+32). The blue and white broke its day-one tie with Limestone, but fell behind a red-hot Lenoir-Rhyne squad to finish fifth.

Wingate surged to the lead with a one-under final round, capturing the SAC title at 577 (+1). After boasting a seven-shot lead on Sunday, Anderson faltered into the runner-up position with a 580 (+4) as Lincoln Memorial (593, +17) rounded out the podium.
