WILSON, N.C. — The Catawba College women's lacrosse team was dealt its first loss in its first road game of the year, dropping a 9-7 contest to Barton at Truist Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (2-1) had three fewer shots than Barton (1-2) in each half, resulting in a 22-16 final ledger in the shooting sector
- Although turnovers remained high for the Catawba Indians, their 23 marked a season low while Barton committed 19 — the least by a Catawba opponent
- The squads were very similar on the clear as the blue and white went 15-for-21 (.714), marginally inferior to the Bulldogs' 15-for-20 (.750)
- The Catawba Indians won the ground ball game by a tight difference of 17-16, holding a 7-4 edge in the third stanza
- Barton possessed a draw control advantage that closely mirrored the final score, going 10-7 in meetings at midfield
- Ashlea Nieland made eight stops in the crease for Catawba, one snag better than Alexandra Ashton's seven saves for the Bulldogs
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Abby Shuren led the attacking corps with two goals on four shots, all on target, as one of six Catawba Indian scorers
- Madison Widecki found paydirt and tallied the team's lone assist for a two-point performance
- Hannah Abel supplied suffocating defense to the tune of two caused turnovers and three ground ball pickups
- Ava Stanza and Allison Filosa snatched up three ground balls apiece, joining Abel to lead all field players in the category
- Emily Better notched a team-high three draw controls, all occurring in the second half
