SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's golf team stands atop the leaderboard of its home tournament, the annual Patsy Rendleman Invitational, through 36 holes at the par-71 Country Club of Salisbury on Monday.
Catawba went 304-310, both rounds being the best of the field, to finish the day at a 46-over-par 614. The blue and white possess a strong 12-shot lead over second-place Lenoir-Rhyne (626, +58) with a 19-stroke advantage over West Chester (633, +65). Catawba's Mary-Paige King fronts the 53-player field with teammate Rachel Carlson in fifth. Hanna Lignell of West Chester is one shot off the lead as High Point individuals Ambre Matlega and Peyton Constable are tied for third place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- King dotted three birdies on Monday, all in the opening round en route to a 70 which marks the junior's third under-par round of the year – one shy of tying the program record
- Carlson chopped three shots from the first to the second round, flipping five birdies into pars and one par into a bird with a 77-74 scorecard
- Kristinsdottir birdied the 17th hole – the course's longest par 3 – in the first round before closing the day at 162 total shots
- Waddell posted the 10th-best second round with a 77 as she and Buxton each tallied two birdies on Monday to stand side-by-side in 29th with 163 strokes
- Moran, making her season debut as an individual, carded 79-85 with a tournament-opening bird on the 15th hole; she is positioned two shots behind a top-half placement
