NINETY SIX, S.C. — The Catawba College women's golf program bested its low round record by four shots on the opening day of the Grand Harbor Classic hosted by Anderson, stacking up eighth in the field through Monday's 36 holes.

The squad led off the tournament by shooting a three-over-par 291, the second-best first round behind only top-ranked Wingate. After another 18 holes, No. 44 Catawba descended to the eighth position with 596 strokes (+20), remaining ahead of two higher-ranked teams in No. 33 UMSL and No. 40 Emmanuel. The Bulldogs hold a two-shot edge over Lander in team standings, paced by individual leader Amely Bochaton at a five-under 139.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carlson rolled through the first round with relative ease, racking up five birdies with a lone over-par hole to post a 69 before adding a 77 to land just outside the top 10
- King registered a steady 72-75 scorecard, bouncing back late in the second round with an eagle and a birdie in her last four holes
- Kristinsdottir made par across her final nine holes in the first round, carrying the momentum into the second 18 in which she picked up three birds to shoot 70
- Buxton was a major player in Catawba's record-breaking round with a par to close the day just outside the top half of the field
- Waddell recorded two birdies through the tournament's first 36 holes, rounding out the Catawba lineup with consecutive 83s
