Softball suffers setback at Anderson

Anderson, S.C. — The Catawba College softball team saw its losing streak extend to six games on Tuesday when it fell in both ends of a doubleheader at Anderson in South Atlantic Conference action.

GAME ONE | Anderson 1, Catawba 0

TEAM STATISTICS

- Anderson out-hit Catawba 5-4

- The Trojans hit the lone homer and extra-base hit of the game

- The Catawba Indians committed the only error in the contest

- Catawba left three runners on base; AU stranded seven

- Anderson's pitchers threw seven scoreless on four hits and one walk, striking out three; Catawba's starters allowed one run on five hits and two walks, striking out one

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Alex Baquie went the distance for Catawba, allowing one run in six innings

- Jordan McCorkle singled in two at-bats

- Grace Flynn, Maddy Altiers and Adda Prescott also picked up base hits

- The only score of the game came on Chloe Maness' solo homer to lead off the fifth inning

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST INNING

- Flynn singled and stole second to lead off game two

- Monroe walked and stole second to put two runners in scoring position with nobody out

- Gallagher's two-run double put Catawba ahead 2-0

THIRD INNING

- Monroe walked and moved to second on a wild pitch

- Altiers' one-out RBI single to center field extended the Catawba Indians' lead to three

- Carson Hobbs' two-run homer in the bottom half cut AU's deficit to a single run

FOURTH INNING

- Two singles and a sac bunt moved two Trojans to scoring position in the fourth

- Maness' RBI groundout tied the game at 3

FIFTH INNING

- Kadence Barrick gave Anderson the lead with a two-run single in the fifth

SIXTH INNING

- Altiers doubled to lead off the sixth inning

- Prescott's sac fly scored Pressley to bring Catawba within a run

- The Trojans' leadoff triple in the bottom half allowed them to add an insurance score on Kara Davis' RBI single through the right side

UP NEXT

- Catawba returns home to Whitley Field on Saturday as it honors its seniors on Senior Day prior to games at 1 and 3 p.m.
