Women's Lacrosse's early two-goal lead vanishes against Newberry

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's lacrosse team kept Newberry silent for the first 20 minutes, but the Wolves surged back in a big way to claim a 15-6 result on Wednesday at Shuford Stadium.

TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (6-9, 2-6 SAC) surrendered a 40-15 margin in the shooting category with the Wolves (8-8, 5-4 SAC) taking a 31-12 edge in shots on goal
- Catawba recorded 18 turnovers, a better-than-average mark, while Newberry had the lowest number of miscues among all Catawba Indian opponents this season at 12
- Newberry achieved perfection in clearing, going 21-for-21 while the blue and white registered 16 clears on the same number of attempts for a .762 success rate
- The Wolves were highly successful in tracking down loose balls, notching positive margins in ground balls (19-10) and draw controls (16-7)
- Ava Kunza had a career-high 16 saves on 31 shots faced (.516) in a 60-minute performance; Presley Green went .500 with six stops, playing all but two minutes to earn the win for the Wolves

INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Skylar Mullin had a hand in four of Catawba's six goals, netting two scores on as many shots with a pair of assists to tie her career high in points
- For the fourth time this season, Maddie Fox found paydirt with all of her shots as she scored two goals while bagging a team-best four draw controls
- Mary Sorvillo and Madison Widecki rounded out the scoresheet with one goal apiece, extending their streaks of goals and points, respectively, to seven contests
- Hannah Abel led the defensive effort with three ground balls and two caused turnovers
- Mullin, Allison Filosa and Meredith Marchetti each caused a turnover, while Filosa also snatched up two ground balls
