Surprise, Ariz. —- The sixth-ranked and fourth-seeded Catawba College women's tennis team fell 4-1 to national champion Nova Southeastern on Saturday in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis national title match on Saturday, closing a historic season as the national runner-up.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Nova Southeastern picked up a win in the top-ranked doubles match
- Sofia Antolini and Rin Igarashi evened the doubles portion of the match with a 6-1 win at #2 singles
- Tina Gomes and Agata Budnik clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win at third-ranked doubles, leading the match, 1-0
SINGLES
- Ami Miya earned an opening-set win at third-ranked singles
- Rin Igarashi bounced back from a first-set loss to earn a 6-3 win in the second set
- Catawba ultimately fell in the fourth-, first-, fifth-, and second-ranked matches to claim the national title
