Chris Saltmarsh enters his second season as Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach in 2023-24.
In his first season, Saltmarsh helped lead both women's and men's teams to better finishes in the SAC Tournament in 2022-23 with eighth and 10th place finishes, respectively.
Saltmarsh guided the Men’s team to a pair of wins at the Jack Ingram Invitational and the Rendleman Invitational, while also overseeing a pair of individual medalists in the form of Chase Clayton (Jack Ingram Invitational) and Riley Smith (Rendleman).
On the Women’s side, Saltmarsh coached the team to a trio of top-five finishes, including another team win at the Jack Ingram Invitational and an individual medalist for the women in the form of Chloe Crane (Jack Ingram Invitational). Under Saltmarsh, the 2022-23 Women’s team finished with the fourth-lowest scoring average in program history, 322.95 over 21 rounds.
Saltmarsh joined the Catawba staff in August of 2022 after serving as the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach at Florida Institute of Technology since 2010.
While under Saltmarsh’s direction, the golf program at Florida Institute of Technology flourished. Saltmarsh helped lead the Panthers’ women’s golf team to a Division II National Championship in 2019 and was named the WGCA National Coach of the Year.
From 2013 through 2019, the women’s team made seven straight NCAA Regional appearances and twice held the number one ranking in Division II golf. He also led the men’s team to a total of eight NCAA Regional appearances between 2011 and 2019.
The Florida Institute of Technology men’s and women’s teams collected a total of 22 tournament wins with 14 on the women’s side and six wins by the men’s team. Saltmarsh coached a total of 26 All-Americans, 54 Academic All-Americans, and a National Freshman of the Year. He was also selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Coach of the Year in 2018.
Prior to his time at FIT, Saltmarsh was the head coach at Northwood University’s West Palm Beach campus from 2006 through 2010. In his four seasons, Saltmarsh helped the program to three NAIA National Championship appearances and guided the men’s team to a Sun Conference Championship in 2009.
