SALISBURY, N.C. -- Mars Hill posted a four-set win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday at Goodman Gym. The Lions won by the scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18 to up their record to 14-7 overall and 6-6 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 8-8 and 5-5.

Allison Bryant led Catawba with 16 kills and added a dozen digs. Kylie Morgan followed with 11 kills and 15 digs. Ashley Johnson contributed nine kills and four blocks with libero Gabrielle Kuzma posting 15 digs.

Catawba hit 31% in taking the opening set, but failed to reach 20% in the final three sets. In that opening set, two kills from Morgan ignited a late Catawba push, moving from a 16-16 to a 19-16 lead. A kill from Bryant had Catawba up 24-21 and she would finally kill off set points after two Lion points.

The Lady Indians trailed the entire second set after falling behind 5-1. A kill from Johnson closed the gap to 14-12 before the Lions used a 7-1 run to surge ahead. Catawba led early in set three, but the Lions would rally back and used a 4-0 run to grab a 21-17 edge. As in the third, Mars Hill scored four straight points in the fourth to snap a 17-17 tie and went on to take the win.

Sarah Goddard had 17 kills and 14 digs to pace Mars Hill. Kelly Jakaitis added 11 kills and four blocks. Nikkayla Stewart had five blocks and Jana Cuk served four aces with nine kills. Setter Joradn Schmucker handed out 39 assists with 10 digs and four kills. Ully Martins posted 23 digs.

Catawba will host Newberry on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
