MARS HILL, N.C. -- Freshman Amery Harrison netted a hat trick as Catawba remained undefeated in women's soccer play with a 5-0 victory over host Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon at Meares Stadium. The 14th-ranked Catawba Indians improve to 12-0-1 overall and 7-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Lions fall to 2-11-1 and 0-8.
Catawba took the lead in the 16th minute. Kasey Hahn took a cross across the top of the box from Hannah Dunn and hit a shot into the upper left corner for the opening goal. The lead was doubled when Amery Harrison put a shot inside the left post on a feed from Helen Summerell in the 26th minute.
Harrison added her second goal in the 50th minute as she scored off a corner kick from Hahn that had been headed by a Mars Hill defender. Four minutes later, Katie Beck added a goal off another Hahn corner as she ripped a shot to the back post from the top of the box. Harrison notched her final goal in the 66th minute as she collected a loose ball off a corner kick and blasted home a shot from about 15 yards out.
The shutout is the 10th for Catawba in 13 matches and its ninth straight clean sheet, running its record streak to 834 minutes. Sierra Davis and Jamie Kazenmayer shared the shutout with each playing one half and making one save. Camryn Miller had seven saves for the Lions.
Catawba travels to Queens on Wednesday for a key league match with the Royals at 5 p.m.
