SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba posted another sweep in volleyball action, topping visiting Emory & Henry on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Catawba Indians won by the scores of 27-25, 25-17 and 25-20 to improve to 5-4 on the year. The Wasps fall to 4-6.
Allison Bryant led Catawba once again with 13 kills and added a pair of service aces. Ashley Johnson followed with nine kills and a pair of blocks. Raytchelle Miranda provided eight kills, while Payton Medich handed out 27 assists.
Catawba and the Wasps battled through a tight first set. The Lady Indians led by as many as four points early in the set and were up 21-18 after a kill from Kylie Morgan. Emory & Henry responded with four straight points to lead 22-21 following a kill by Hannah Watson.
Bryant had a kill and Medich an ace to push Catawba up 24-22. A kill from Brianna Hogan and two aces from Savanah Keesee had the Wasps up 25-24. Miranda had a kill for Catawba to stave off the set point and following an Emory & Henry attack error, Johnson killed off the set point.
Catawba controlled set two, jumping to an 11-3 edge. Up 14-9, Catawba ran off a 6-1 spurt to lead 20-10 and got the set point on a kill from Bryant. Consecutive kills from Miranda and another from Bryant keyed a 4-0 run in set three to give Catawba a 10-7 edge. The lead grew to 16-9 following a kill from Johnson. The Wasps closed within four, but Morgan Pearson got the final kill to end the match.
Watson had seven kills to lead Emory & Henry. Camden Jones served four aces and Keesee three. Sarah Moore produced 14 digs.
Catawba will host Wingate in league action on Saturday at 7 p.m.
