JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Hannah Dunn scored a first-half hat trick to lead Catawba's 7-0 hammering of host Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday night at McCown Field. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, recording its first win over Carson-Newman since 2014. The Eagles fall to 3-2-2 and 2-1.
Dunn tallied her three goals in a seven-minute span midway through the initial half. Dunn's first goal came in the 26th minute as she redirected a cross from Sydney Jimmo that went through the legs of Eagle keeper Lilly Ebner. Helen Summerell freed Dunn for a breakaway in the 29th minute then Dunn tapped home a loose ball in the goal mouth that was dropped by the keeper in the 33rd minute.
Catawba added another goal before the break as Katie Beck lofted a rebound from her own shot over Ebner in the 39th. Catawba out-shot Carson-Newman 10-2 in the opening half.
Summerell opened the second-half scoring in the 49th minutes as she raced on a long kick down the sideline from Jovana Sanchez and dribbled around defenders to tuck a shot past the keeper. Jimmo got the first of her two goals in the 61st minute, converting a cross through the box from Dunn. A minute later, Jimmo knocked home a penalty kick for the final margin.
Sierra Davis posted three saves in earning the shutout for Catawba. The seven goals were the most by the Lady Indians since a 7-0 victory over Chowan in 2013.
Catawba hosts Wingate on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
