Catawba Defeats LR in Tri-Meet; Reckmann Wins Pair of Individual Events

HICKORY, N.C. – The Catawba College womens swimming team finished second in a tri-meet with Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate over the weekend. The Indians finished ahead of Lenoir-Rhyne, 127-77, and behind Wingate, 131-71. Freshman Marit Reckmann also was the meet's top point-getter by being the only swimmer to win both of her individual events.

The freshman from Langenhagen, Germany was the only swimmer to win both of her individual events when she took first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Reckmann blazed ahead to a time of 24.70 in the 50 and swam a 53.71 to edge past Wingate's Nina Azirovic. With her two wins, Reckmann earned Catawba 18 points, the most out of any other swimmer in the field.

Also earning a win was Gabriella Moll. Moll continued to look sharp in the 100-yard breaststroke as she posted a time of 1:07.58. Moll also earned a second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.77, and earned 13 points for Catawba with her 1st and 2nd place finishes.

Ashley Fortin took home a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke to round out Catawba's top finishes. Fortin touched the wall in 1:00.42, her personal-best so far in 2022.

The women's swim team will be back in the pool this Saturday for another tri-meet against LR and Lees-McRae.
