Women's Swimming Defeats Lenoir Rhyne and Lees-McRae; Win Seven Total Events

HICKORY, N.C. – The Catawba College women's swimming team kept their hot streak going with a pair of wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Lees-McRae over the weekend. The Catawba Indians won seven events in total including two top finishes by Gabriella Moll and Jolina Franke. 

Moll won both individual breaststroke events after crusing to victories in the 100 and 200-yard events. The freshman swam the 100-yard event in a time of 1:07.22 and touched the wall in 2:22.47 during the 200-yard swim. 

Marit Reckmann also picked up another individual event win over the weekend. The freshman from Germany took home a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.77. She also finished second in the 200-yard free by just 18 milliseconds after touching the wall in a final time of 1:57.48. 

Jolina Franke finished first in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly after posting a 2:21.74 in the longer 200-yard event followed by a final mark of 1:03.84 in the 100-yard race. 

Catawba's freestlye and medley relays swept the day with first place finishes. The medley relay consisting of Milena Judge, Emily Heim, Moll, and Reckman grabbed first after swimming a 4:04.79 in the opening event. Then Ashley Fortin, Maria Castano, Heim, and Reckman ended the meet with a top finish and a time of 3:43.65 in the freestyle relay. 

The women's swimming team will be back in the pool in two weeks when they travel to Charlotte for the Fall Frezy Mid-Season Invite.
