Men's Soccer Picked 8th In Preseason Poll; Savigar Named First Team Preseason All-Conference

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Catawba College men's soccer team was picked eighth in the 2022 South Atlantic Conference preseason poll, and junior forward Tom Savigar was selected to the Preseason All-Conference First Team the league announced today (Aug. 16). 

The men's soccer team received 49 total voting points and was tabbed eighth in this year's poll after finishing 2021 with a 10-7-2 record before their season came to an end in the SAC Conference Tournament semifinals. 

Carson-Newman was picked first in the 2022 preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches. The Eagles received seven first-place votes with 114 voting points. Lenoir-Rhyne was picked second with four first-place votes and 105 total points. 

Junior forward Tom Savigar returned to the First Team Preseason All-Conference list after being named to the same list at the end of the 2021 season. Savigar led the team in points with 25 on the year, and he was tied for the team lead in goals with eight. The Liskeard, England native also led the team in assists with nine as he played in 18 of 19 games a season ago. 

The men's soccer team will open the regular season on August 25th at Mount Olive beginning at 7:00 p.m.
