DURHAM, N.C. -- The No. 21 Catawba College women's soccer team defeated Shaw University 6-2 in their first road contest of the season on Tuesday night. Five different players scored in the game for Catawba.
Helen Summerell got the night started with the first goal of the game just five minutes in for her second score of the season. Shaw answered back 15 minutes later with an equalizing goal to make it a 1-1 game, but the women's soccer team rattled off four straight goals including a pair that came in the final three minutes before halftime.
Sharon Mayes notched the go-ahead goals with a little over two minutes to play in the first half, then Hannah Dunn continued her hot start with a goal in the last minute of the half.
Catawba kept the foot on the gas when they scored two more times in a span of two minutes. With 18 and a half minutes to play, Sydney Jimmo scored an unnassisted goal, then Dunn got her second of the game and fifth of the season just two short miutes later to put Catawba ahead 5-1.
Shaw scored less than a minute later, but Ayden Vaughan put things to rest with a goal on an assist from Morgan Delair to make it a 6-2 game.
The women's soccer team will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to North Greenville at 6:00 p.m.
