Volleyball Falls In Finale at Electric City Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Catawba College women's volleyball team was swept by Texas A&M International in the weekend finale of the Electric City Invitational on Saturday morning. Catawba fell in three sets, 25-19, 25-13, 25-14.

Catawba attacked at a solid clip in the first two sets marking a .323 hitting percentage in the first set and .276 in the second set, but they were unable to slow the Dustdeviles' offense. Texas A&M International hit .355 in set one then followed that up with a gaudy .556 hitting percentage in the second set  to get out to a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Indians were unable to overcome the deficit and dropped the third set, 25-14.

Despite the loss, Catawba had solid performances from freshman Lauren Bodell, Kelcie Love, and veteran Ashley Johnson. Bodell tallied 11 kills, a pair of service aces, and two block assists, while Love and Johnson each had six kills. Love and Johnson had just three attack errors on 25 attacks and both hit over .330 on the day.

The women's volleyball team will play their first home game this coming Wednesday (Sept. 3) when Charleston (WV) comes to town at 6:00 p.m.
