Salisbury, N.C. - The Catawba College men and 25th-ranked women's swim teams cruised to their second straight home win at Johnson Pool, with the men earning a 157-46 win and the women right behind them at 156-46. It was the second straight meet that Catawba swimmers swept the meet, with either a team or individuals winning every event in another dominant showing.
HOW IT HAPPENED
400 Yard Medley Relay
- Catawba opened the evening with teams taking the top three overall spots in the 400 Yard Medley Relay, setting the tone for another dominant performance. Taylor Wilson, Hannah Koopmans, Brinkley Watson, and Marit Reckmann took the win for the women with a time of 3:58.46 while another Catawba squad featuring Ashley Fortin, Alix Henras-Marouf, Berta Vidal Carnero, and Kenzie Peurifoy finished second at 4:07.39
- On the men's side, it was a team of Rodrigo Yus Fernandez, Rowan Viles, Balazs Meszaros, and Maks Minichowski that secured the win with a 3:26.48 effort
1000 Yard Freestyle
- Fiona Byrne led the heat with a time of 10:32.45, with Ella Gutenwik behind her at 10:39.78
- The men's top three was all Catawba, led by Alejandro Alvarez with a time of 9:58.90 and followed by Lewis Mikesell (10:17.72) and Leon Heiermann (10:19.94)
200 Yard Freestyle
- The top three in both heats were all Catawba. Koopmans paced the women at 1:57.30, with Wilson (2:00.91) and Jolina Franke (2:02.62) rounding out the podium.
- On the men's side, Meszaros topped the field with a time of 1:43.78, followed by Elias Hysing (1:48.25) and Isaac Haut (1:50.10)
50 Yard Freestyle
- Minichowski and Reckmann, fresh off of both earning SAC Swimmer of the Week honors, led their respective fields. Reckmann's time of 24.28 just beat out Henras-Marouf for the women's win, while Minichowski was just ahead of Ryan Case with a time of 21.00 to Case's 22.25
400 Yard IM
- Returning All-American Gabi Moll paced the women's heat with a time of 4:46.04, with Lillie Martin finishing second with a 4:46.44 effort
- Joao Oliveira led on the men's side at 4:09.50, as Enrique Rodriguez placed second with a time of 4:18.84
100 Yard Butterfly
- Watson took the victory on the women's side with a 59.43 mark, followed by Henras-Marouf at 1:02.85
- Minichowski earned his second individual win of the night with a 51.70 effort, with Case (53.58) and Nolan Lacjak (54.34) rounding out the top three
100 Yard Freestyle
- Meszaros nabbed his second individual win for the men, just beating out Alvarez 47.41 to 48.40
- Gutenwik (54.29) and Fortin (55.51) ensured that both the men and women's heats were once again all-Catawba
100 Yard Backstroke
- Wilson earned the win on the women's side thanks to a 1:00.42 effort, with Diamond Mosley taking third at 1:02.67
- Yus Fernandez paced the men's heat at 54.17, as Rodriguez (55.84) and Haut (56.37) made an all-Catawba podium for the men
500 Yard Freestyle
- Byrne became the first Catawba swimmer on the women's side to notch two individual wins on the night, taking the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:13.07. Franke (5:26.22) and Vidal Carnero (5:46.95) rounded out the top three
- It was the same story on the men's side, with Hysing (4:54.11) leading the way. Mikesell and Heiermann were second and third with times of 5:03.09 and 5:06.60, respectively
100 Yard Breaststroke
- Moll joined Byrne with two individual women's wins, securing her second victory with a time of 1:08.08. Laurel Keasler (1:10.69) and Bridgette Pearson (1:11.84) took second and third
- Viles (58.92) and Marshall Wells (1:02.23) nabbed first and second for the men, respectively
400 Yard Freestyle Relay
- Just like the 400 Yard Medley Relay, it was a Catawba team taking the win in both the men and women's heats. Reckmann, Koopmans, Watson, and Gutenwik took first for the women with a time of 3:35.11 while Case, Haut, Alvarez, and Hysing paced the men with a 3:15.04 mark
