ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Catawba College men's basketball improved to 11-2 in the South Atlantic Conference on Wednesday, defeating Anderson on the road, 89-76, behind a 52-point second half. The Catawba Indians improve to 16-6 overall, while the Trojans drop to 7-16 overall and 4-9 in league play.
Adrian Scarborough led the way for Catawba with a team-high 15 points on perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field. DeAngelo Epps added 13 points, while Javeon Jones posted a statline of 11 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Peyton Gerald was the fourth Indian in double figures, also with 11. Myles Jenkins and Jacksen Greco tied for a game-high 19 points for Anderson.
Catawba forced Anderson into 18 turnovers and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds, resulting in a 28-9 advantage in points off turnovers and 16-6 edge in second chance points. Catawba also ran the floor, out-scoring Anderson 32-11 in the fastbreak.
The teams played evenly for the first eight minutes before the Trojans scored seven in a row to take a 23-16 lead at the 9:06 mark. Catawba responded with a 10-0 run of its own, capitalized with a Scarborough dunk. The sides entered the halftime locker room tied at 37.
It was all Catawba from there on, as the Indians scored 20 of the first 24 points in the second half. Jerome Bivins' three-pointer gave Catawba a 57-41 lead just seven minutes in. Coach Perron's team scored at a blistering pace, recording 30 second-half points before the midway point of the final period. The deficit did not get within 14 until the final two minutes, by which point Catawba had already salted away its 11th league victory.
The Catawba Indians return to Goodman Gym on Saturday, hosting Limestone for a 4 p.m. tip.
