Murfreesboro, N.C. —- The 20th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win at Chowan University Thursday afternoon, led by a hat trick from graduate student midfielder Sydney Jimmo. Catawba moves to 1-0 for the seventh consecutive season, while the Hawks drop to 0-1.

- Jimmo scored three goals, including the game-winner
- Maria Rayburn scored on a penalty kick and added an assist

- Helen Summerell kicked her 2023 campaign off with a goal scored
- Bree Ehmer scored and Alexah Fite assisted in their Catawba debuts
- Lillie Rusher logged her first assist of the season
- Ashley Hughes and Gabby Cossette combined for the shutout, although the Catawba defense did not allow Chowan to take a shot on goal
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- Summerell fired a shot on goal in the ninth minute, but the shot was saved
- Rusher fired a free kick deep and Jimmo did the rest, scoring in the 16th minute
- Dunn found Summerell up the right side for another score just four minutes later
- Shots on goal from Dunn in the 25th and 34th minutes were saved
- Newcomers Ehmer and Fite connected on a 37th minute header score
SECOND HALF
- Catawba earned a penalty kick less than 90 seconds into the second half
- Rayburn buried the opportunity to take a 4-0 lead in the 47th minute
- Jimmo's shot on goal in the 56th minute was saved, but she would not be denied, securing the brace in the 65th minute
- She got the hat trick in the 69th minute off another Dunn assist
