Football Dominates Second Half in 30-13 Win Over Emory & Henry

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College football team out-scored Emory & Henry 27-3 in the second half on Saturday night, en route to a 30-13 win over the Wasps at Shuford Stadium on Family Weekend.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba earned 17 first downs to Emory & Henry's 12

- The Catawba Indians were 5-of-17 (29 percent) on third down, while holding the Wasps to 3-of-12 (25 percent) on third down

- Catawba out-gained E&H 422-226

- CatU had 178 passing yards to the Wasps' 87

- The Catawba Indians racked up 244 yards on the ground to Emory & Henry's 139 rushing yards

- Catawba forced two turnovers while fumbling once offensively

- The Catawba Indians won the time of possession battle 34:59 to 25:01

 

INDIVIDUAL STATS

- LJ Turner took 16 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns

- Malcolm Wilson added 58 yards on seven carries and another score

- Marquece Williams and Preston Brown ran for 54 and 50 yards, respectively

- Brown added 178 yards through the air on nine completions

- Kobe Christian hauled in two passes for a game-high 110 yards

- Deno Wardlow and Evan Simons each recorded team-high seven tackles

- Jakarri Martin added five tackles and four pass break-ups

- Chase Rogers tallied a sack

- Joshua Pixley intercepted a pass, Trey Womack forced a fumble and Anton Popov recovered the fumble

- Bryson Sims was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and 3-for-3 on PATs

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

- After the sides traded punts, Emory & Henry capped a 13-play drive with a 38-yard field goal to take the early lead

 

SECOND QUARTER

- Catawba's drove 15 plays over seven and a half minutes on their ensuing drive into the red zone, but was unable to convert on a fourth down and turned the ball over on downs

- A 55-yard Christian catch on third down set up a Sims 44-yard field goal to tie the game at 3

- E&H responded with four plays of 15-plus yards to strike for a 16-yard J'Quan Anderson touchdown to take a 10-3 lead into the halftime break

 

THIRD QUARTER

- Pixley intercepted Emory & Henry on their first possession of the second half

- Catawba capitalized with a 40-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 10-6

- Womack forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to get the ball right back

- The Wasp defense held up, forcing Catawba to settle for a 32-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 10-9

- Catawba forced an E&H punt before Wilson burst out for a 36-yard touchdown run as Catawba took a lead for the first time 16-10

 

FOURTH QUARTER

- The Catawba Indians forced a punt, but fumbled on the first play of their next drive to set up Emory & Henry in Catawba territory

- E&H nailed a 50-yard field goal to cut it to a three-point game with 13:34 remaining

- Christian's second 55-yard catch of the night set up Turner's nine-yard touchdown plunge to go up 23-13 just two minutes later

- Catawba forced yet another punt and drove nine plays for another Turner touchdown run
