Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's basketball team was tied with defending Southeast regional champion Lincoln Memorial midway through the second half, but the Railsplitters finished the game on a 40-12 run to pull away at Goodman Arena on Saturday afternoon.
TEAM STATS
- Lincoln Memorial shot 33-for-61 (54 percent), while Catawba was 25-of-68 (37 percent) from the floor
- The Railsplitters were a blistering 15-for-24 (63 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians struggled from deep, shooting 3-of-23 (13 percent)
- Catawba shot 14-for-17 (82 percent) from the free throw line, while LMU was 14-of-22 (64 percent) from the charity stripe
- Lincoln Memorial out-rebounded the Catawba Indians 51-26, which led to a 15-8 advantage in second-chance points
- The Railsplitters recorded 19 assists to 18 turnovers, while Catawba dished out 10 assists to seven turnovers; the Catawba Indians led 18-6 in points off turnovers
- LMU held a 34-24 edge in points in the paint and 12-7 in fastbreak points, but Catawba's bench out-scored Lincoln Memorial's 40-6

- DeAngelo Epps scored a game-high 14 points
- Kaleb Wallace added 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting off the bench
- Javeon Jones was the third Catawba Indian in double figures with 11 points
- Justin Banks chipped in six points and three others had five points apiece
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- LMU scored on their opening possession before Catawba matched nearly two minutes later
- Back-to-back Railsplitter three-pointers opened up an 8-2 lead for the visitors
- A pair of baskets from Wallace cut Lincoln Memorial's lead to a single point around the 13-minute mark
- LMU connected on two triples to re-open a seven-point lead near the midway point of the half
- The Catawba Indians went on a 10-0 as Epps' and-one gave the home team an 18-15 lead
- Justin Mitchell's free throw put the Catawba Indians up 25-19 a couple minutes later
- Catawba's largest lead of the game came with 3:48 left in the first half, holding a 31-22 advantage
- The Railsplitters finished the half on a 7-2 run, trailing 35-31 heading into the halftime locker room
SECOND HALF
- Catawba opened up an eight-point lead two and a half minutes in after Jones' jumper
- Seven straight Lincoln Memorial points in the span of 35 seconds erased the Catawba Indian lead to a single point
- Me'Kell Burries' three-pointer gave LMU its first lead since in over 13 minutes of game action
- Wallace's jumper put Catawba back in front with just under 13 minutes to go
- O'Mazeon Tinsley's jumper tied the game at 55 at the under-12 timeout
- The Railsplitters struck for back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead
- Jones' three-pointer slowed the LMU run, as Catawba trailed 70-65 at the 8:07 mark
- Lincoln Memorial went on a 16-0 run over the next five minutes to pull away
- The game ended on a 25-2 run over the final eight minutes, as the final score did not represent the game's competitiveness
