Salisbury, N.C. —- The 21st-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against South Atlantic Conference rival Wingate on Wednesday afternoon at Frock Field.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba out-shot Wingate 8-4
- The Catawba Indians had two shots on goal to one for the Bulldogs
- Catawba recorded five of seven corner kicks on the afternoon
- WU was called for nine fouls to six for Catawba
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Ashley Hughes provided the one save in the clean sheet
- Ella Matthews and Bree Ehmer provided the shots on target for Catawba
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- The first shot on goal from either side didn't come until the 39th minute when Matthews tested the Wingate keeper to step up for the save
SECOND HALF
- The Bulldogs' Angela Maino put the lone shot on target for Wingate in the 58th minute, but Hughes made the stop
- A ball played ahead by Morgan Delair provided a great chance for Ehmer in the 69th minute, but Wingate's keeper made a decision-saving stop
- It would be the final threat of the game, as neither side was even able to record a shot in the final 11 minutes
GAME NOTES
- The all-time series moves to 32-13-2
- First draw in the series since Wingate drew 0-0 at Frock Field in 2022
- Wingate has not won in the regular season against Catawba since 2017; has now won at Frock Field since '16
- Catawba now stands third in the SAC table, remaining two points behind Wingate with an extra game in hand
