Salisbury, N.C. —- The 17th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team rolled to its third straight shutout victory, defeating visiting Coker 4-0 for its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game at Frock Field on Wednesday night.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba out-shot Coker 24-3
- The Catawba Indians put nine shots on goal, while limiting the Cobras without one shot on target
- Catawba recorded 10 of 11 corner kicks on the night
- Coker was called for 16 of 21 fouls with four of six yellow cards in the game
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Kylie Morin recorded a first-half brace, scoring twice in the game's opening 25 minutes
- Callie Hammond added her first goal of the season
- Freshman Avery Rush netted her second goal in as many games with a late-game score
- Lauren Darbo, Bree Ehmer, Summer Ward and Savannah Singh added assists on the night
- Ashley Hughes picked up her third straight shutout in goal
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- Darbo went end line and found a cutting Morin for the game's opening score in the 16th minute
- Ehmer's shot on target was saved, but fell right to Morin for the putback score in the 24th minute to double the lead
- Ward threatened to make it a three-score lea din the final minute of the opening frame, but Coker stepped up for the save
SECOND HALF
- Ehmer tested the Cobras' keeper once again in the 51st minute, but the visitors made the stop
- A long ball played into Hammond set up the senior to make a move and score just inside the right post to add an insurance score in the 79th minute
- Like on Sunday, Catawba followed a second-half score just minutes later with another, as a crisp breakaway play from Singh to Ward to Rush found the back of the net for the Catawba Indians' fourth and final score of the night
- Ward another shot on target for good measure, but the teams settled for the final 4-0 decision
GAME NOTES
- Catawba improves to 17-2-1 all-time versus Coker
- The Catawba Indians are 10-0-0 all-time versus the Cobras at Frock Field, out-scoring their visitors 45-0
- Catawba remains at the top of the SAC table with 10 points, tied with 9th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne
