PREVIEW: Women's Basketball opens up SAC play at Anderson

Anderson, S.C. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team kicks off its conference slate on Wednesday evening, hitting the road to take on Anderson in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action.

THE HISTORY

- Catawba leads the all-time series 20-13

- The Catawba Indians are 9-8 in Anderson

- Catawba has won the last five in the series

 

GOODLETT GOES FAR

- Freshman Bailee Goodlett dropped a career-high 19 points in the win over Johnson C. Smith in the home opener last Wednesday

- The North Rowan graduate added two rebounds and two steals in her Goodman Arena debut

- Goodlett leads the Catawba Indians in scoring through three games with 10.7 points per contest

 

NCAA TOURNAMENT PEDIGREE

- Although Catawba and Anderson did not meet in the 2024 NCAA Southeast Regional in Goodman Arena, the two did win their First Round matchups to reach the Round of 32

- The Trojans returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019 when the team won 30 games

- Upon their selection to the later-canceled 2020 NCAA Tournament, Anderson would have appeared in its sixth straight national tournament

- Both teams appear to go young this season, as both are in led in scoring by a freshman

 

THE LAST MATCHUP

- The last game played between Catawba and Anderson ended with a Lyrik Thorne go-ahead jumper in the closing seconds of overtime to lift the Catawba Indians to an 84-83 road win over the Trojans

- Thorne and Janiya Downs both scored a team-high 21 points; Sara McIntosh added 18 points and nine rebounds

- Anderson has been without preseason All-SAC selections Diamond McDowell and Zamiya Passmore for the team's first four games of the season
