PREVIEW: Women's Basketball takes win streak on road at Tusculum

Greenville, Tenn. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team looks to take its success in Goodman Arena this season on the road on Wednesday, taking on the Tusculum Pioneers to continue South Atlantic Conference play at Pioneer Arena.

THE HISTORY

- Catawba leads all-time series 29-25

- The Catawba Indians are 13-14 in Pioneer Arena

- Catawba won the first eight matchups in the all-time series ('95-'03); TU held a 12-game win streak over Catawba from 2007-13

 

100 FOR COACH MAC

- Head coach Terence McCutcheon earned his 100th career head coaching victory on Saturday vs. Emory & Henry

- McCutcheon is the third coach in Catawba women's basketball history to reach the 100-win milestone

- The two-time SAC Coach of the Year is the fastest to reach the milestone in program history, reaching 100 wins in just 129 games; his 0.775 win percentage is highest among any coach in Catawba women's basketball history

 

PICKIN' POCKETS WITH NAT

- Catawba senior Natalie Fuertes Lara matched the program's single-game steals record in the win over Emory & Henry on Saturday, notching nine steals

- Fuertes Lara also did all of this in 17 minutes of action, none of which were in the fourth quarter with the game result comfortably in hand

- Fuertes Lara currently leads the SAC with 31 steals this season, while also ranking in the top ten in blocks with 11

 

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

- Despite this being the first meeting against Tusculum this season, the midweek matchup will be Catawba's third game inside Pioneer Arena this season

- The Catawba Indians opened the season with the Jersey Mike's Regional Challenge on Nov. 9 & 10

- Catawba fell in its season-opener versus nationally ranked Columbus State before earning its first win of the season against Lees-McRae

 

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

- The Pioneers have already surpassed their overall and SAC win totals from a difficult 2023-24 season which saw TU go 3-23 overall and 1-19 in league play

- Despite the struggles, Ni'Kiah Chesterfield was a bright spot for the Pioneers, earning a spot on the All-Freshman Team with team-best averages of 12.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game

- The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native earned SAC Player of the Week honors after a career-high 34-point effort in a win over USC Aiken; Chesterfield currently leads the league in scoring with 19.1 points per game on a league-best 57.7 percent shooting from the field
