Newberry, S.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team fell in a non-conference midweek matchup at Newberry on Wednesday afternoon behind five defensive errors at the Smith Road Complex.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba out-hit Newberry 12-7
- The Catawba Indians recorded all five extra-base hits and the lone homer
- Catawba suffered five errors in the field to the Wolves' one

- The Catawba Indians' pitching staff allowed four earned runs on seven hits and five walks, striking out eight; Newberry's staff allowed five earned runs on 12 hits and five walks with seven strikeouts
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Sam Hunter went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, a walk, two RBI, three runs scored and a steal
- Drew Robertson added two hits, a walk and a stolen base
- Levi Perrell added a single, an RBI and a run scored
- Cole Hales was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored
- He also pitched a hitless inning with two strikeouts
- Ty Hubbard doubled and drove in two
- Mason Gwyn provided two innings of hitless relief, while allowing an unearned run
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- Perrell recorded a lead-off single before scoring on an error
- Hunter later scored on a fielder's choice, as the Catawba Indians took an early 2-0 lead
SECOND INNING
- Two two-out walks and a wild pitch allowed Newberry's Leshko to tie the game on a two-RBI single
THIRD INNING
- Hunter doubled and stole third with one out in the third
- Bo Rusher III drove him in on a single to center field
FOURTH INNING
- Robertson's bunt single and stolen bases gave Catawba runners on second and third with one out in the fourth
- Perrell's RBI groundout returned the Catawba Indian lead to two runs
- A three-base error allowed Newberry to cut their deficit in half on a sac fly
FIFTH INNING
- Hubbard's double allowed Hales to score from first, as Catawba led 5-3 at the midway point
- The Wolves struck for four runs in the fifth, three of which were unearned, as Newberry turned the advantage to the home side, leading 7-5
SEVENTH INNING
- Newberry added two more in the seventh inning, leading 9-5
NINTH INNING
- Cooper Bryson singled to lead off the ninth and Hunter's two-run homer cut the Wolves lead in half
- A one-out walk brought the tying run to the plate, but Newberry closed the door to send Catawba to 4-3 overall on the season
