Jefferson City, Tenn. —- The Catawba College baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to kickstart a 13-run effort in the final four innings in the series-opening win at Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.
TEAM STATISTICS

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Cole Hales went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, a walk, five RBI and three runs scored
- Sam Hunter was 3-for-5 with a run driven in and three runs scored
- Dylan Driver added two hits including a double with an RBI and three runs scored
- Drew Robertson clubbed two doubles as a part of a three-hit outing, driving in two runs and scoring another
- Hayden Simmerson picked up his third save in four outings, pitching the final three innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out three; Casey Gouge earned the win following a brief relief appearance
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- Carson-Newman's Williams got the scoring started for the Eagles with a solo homer in the bottom half of the first
SECOND INNING
- Hales' one-out walk allowed Robertson's double to score him, as the Catawba Indians tied the game in the very next trip to the plate
THIRD INNING
- C-N re-gained the lead on a two-out RBI single from Logan Floyd to left center
FIFTH INNING
- Carson-Newman pushed its lead to 4-1 after Floyd ripped a two-RBI double
SIXTH INNING
- Back-to-back singles from Levi Perell and Driver to start the sixth had runners on the corners with nobody out
- Hunter scored Perrell on an opposite-field single
- After a walk loaded the bases, Hales' opposite-field grand slam emptied them to give Catawba the 6-4 advantage
- Robertson followed up with a double with still nobody out
- He later scored on a fielding error with the Catawba Indians taking a 7-4 lead
- Back-to-back Eagle base hits in the bottom half got the hosts within 7-6
- An RBI groundout tied the game at 7
SEVENTH INNING
- Driver's RBI double scored Perrell to give the lead right back to Catawba
- Bo Rusher's RBI single up the middle doubled the lead
- Robertson's sac fly put the Catawba Indians up 10-7
NINTH INNING
- Hales ripped an RBI single through the left side for his fifth RBI of the day to add insurance in the ninth
- Logan Rogers' two-RBI double kept the scoring coming to lead 13-7
- Jackson Finger joined the scoresheet with an RBI base knock to score Catawba's 13th run since the start of the sixth inning
- Simmerson closed the door from there, sending Catawba to its 12th win in the last 14 games
