Cary, N.C. —- The 9th-ranked and third-seeded Catawba College baseball team fell short in its opening game of the Division II National Championships at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., falling to 21st-ranked and sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire behind a complete shutout performance on the mound.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for SNHU with two outs
- A bloop single to left from Jake Risedorf scored the game's first run, but Perrell threw out the second runner at the plate to keep the Penmen's lead to 1-0
FIFTH INNING
- SNHU got a runner aboard on a two-out bloop single just down the left field line
- Jorge Burgos launched his 19th homer of the season to extend the Penmen lead to 3-0
- A walk and another homer from Dylan O'Sullivan made it a 5-0 lead for SNHU
SEVENTH INNING
- The Penmen started the inning with a pair of walks and stole second and third with nobody out
- Catawba got a strikeout on a dropped third strike, but the SNHU runner broke for home and an error scored two to push SNHU's lead to seven runs
