SALISBURY, N.C. — A final-minute stunner gave the Catawba College men's soccer team a heartbreaking 1-0 setback against Tusculum at Frock Field on Saturday night.
TEAM STATS
- After posting one shot in the first half, Catawba (4-4-1, 1-3-1 SAC) more than doubled its shooting output after the break to finish with five; however, Tusculum (4-5-1, 2-3-1 SAC) totaled 10 with leads over the hosts in each period
- Both teams tallied three shots on goal with the Catawba Indians accounting for the lone on-target attempt through 45 minutes
- Catawba boasted a 6-1 edge in the corner kicks department – a category that the blue and white slot 29th in nationally
- Tusculum was hit with two yellow cards while Catawba was shown one, but the Catawba Indians were saddled with more fouls by a 17-7 margin
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Five different Catawba Indians sent in one shot as Adriano Melo, Lukas García Huidobro and Alex Payton uncorked one on-goal delivery apiece
- Catawba employed four substitutes, including Rahal Karkoubi who saw his first action since the season opener
- Six Catawba field players went the distance including the main defensive unit that consists of Payton, Gabin Mazeyrat and Juan Camilo
- In goal, Héctor Vara denied two of the three shots he faced in the ninth consecutive complete game to start his career
