Wingate, N.C. —- The Catawba College football team saw its four-game win streak snapped in a 41-28 loss at South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate on Saturday night at Irwin Belk Stadium.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Wingate out-gained Catawba 527-307
- The Bulldogs rushed for 281 yards on the ground compared to the Catawba Indians' 75 rushing yards
- WU held a slight 246-232 edge in passing yards
- Wingate gained 26 first downs to 20 for Catawba
- The Bulldogs held a 35:28-24:32 edge in time of possession
- Both teams were efficient on third down - Wingate was 7-for-11; Catawba was 6-of-12

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Catawba received the ball first, but the Wingate defense forced a three and out
- The Bulldogs' Elijah Holmes found Jaylen Himes for a 28-yard touchdown on a 3rd & 8 to lead 7-0
- After forcing Catawba to a punt, Holmes broke through for a 33-yard touchdown to take a 14-0 lead
SECOND QUARTER
- A Xavier Pugh 2-yard TD plunge extended the WU lead to 21-0
- After the Bulldogs forced a punt, the Catawba defense stood tall and Wingate's 42-yard field goal try was no good
- A 42-yard completion to Pryor set Catawba up in Wingate territory late in the second half
- On 3rd & 12 from the Wingate 16-yard line, Brown found McArthur for a touchdown with less than a minute to go in the half, cutting the halftime deficit to 14 points
THIRD QUARTER
- Wingate converted a 3rd & 8 en route to a touchdown on an 8-play, 80-yard drive to open the second half, leading 28-7
- On a 3rd & goal from the 10-yard line, Herrera came up with a sack fumble and Jones recovered

Jalen Brown's 17-yard touchdown grab, pulling within two possessions just before the end of the third quarter
FOURTH QUARTER
- Pugh broke free for a 46-yard touchdown in the opening minute of the fourth quarter
- On 3rd & 19, Brown found
Nick Venezia for a 26-yard reception;
Preston Brown capped the drive with a 15-yard touchdown run near the 11-minute mark
- The Wingate offense drove into Catawba territory, but settled for a successful 37-yard field goal try
- Catawba completed a pass into Wingate territory, but the Bulldogs forced a fumble and recovered
- Wingate settled for a 25-yard field goal to take a 41-21 lead with less than two minutes to go
