PREVIEW: Women’s Volleyball bookends Halloween at Anderson, hosting Carson-Newman

ANDERSON, S.C. — The Catawba College women's volleyball team prepares for a two-match Halloween weekend that begins on Thursday at Anderson, then wraps up on Saturday against Carson-Newman at Goodman Arena.

Upset Scare
- Despite not winning in Mossy Creek since 2016, the Catawba Indians spooked Carson-Newman last Friday in a hard-fought loss that went a full five sets
- C-N dominated the highs and lows of the match, registering 72 kills with 25 errors compared to Catawba's 48 and 17; the Eagles led 11-4 in aces, but also held a 11-5 margin in errant serves
- Lillie Kate Rogers and Sofia Beard paced Catawba on offense with a combined 25 kills
- Martina Foster served three aces and elevated to make five blocks to lead nine-stop night for the team

Broom Town
- Not unlike witches, Catawba has brought out the brooms against its last four opponents at Goodman Arena
- The blue and white strung together three consecutive sweeps prior to Friday's trip to Tennessee, shutting out Mars Hill, Tusculum and Newberry
- Five SAC sweeps this season is one shy of the program's six blankings in 2022

All-Time Series
- The series between Catawba and Anderson largely favors the Trojans by a 21-6 margin
- After winning in the first two trips to Anderson, the Catawba Indians have suffered 11 consecutive losses at Abney Athletic Center
- In 77 meetings against Carson-Newman, Catawba has gone 40-37 with the Eagles' back-to-back wins tightening the ledger
- At Goodman Arena, Catawba leads the series 19-14 with victories in two of the last three matchups in Salisbury

Scouting the Trojans
- Anderson is 15-5 on the year with a solid 10-2 in-conference record and a 5-0 clip at home
- The Trojans have swept their last two foes: Emory & Henry on Friday, Newberry on Tuesday
- Except for nationally-ranked Wingate, AU has topped every SAC opponent it has faced this season at least once in four or fewer sets; the Trojans' only league losses are to Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne
- Anderson ranks 19th nationally in assists per set thanks to defending Second Team All-SAC and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention Ellie Nieporte's 9.51 per-stanza mark

Scouting the Eagles
- Since a successful home court defense against Catawba last week, the Eagles went on the road to sweep Emory & Henry to improve to 18-3 overall and 9-3 in the SAC
- Carson-Newman has dropped just one of its nine road matches this season, which was a 3-0 defeat at Anderson on Oct. 3
- C-N holds the conference's second-best hitting percentage of .245 with Maddie Hurst and Emerson Ahsmuhs leading the charge
- Trinity Hafey was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following the libero's 43-dig week that included 28 stops against the Catawba Indians
